UNESCO Launched Project To Support Ethiopian Film Industry

The UNESCO Liaison Office in Addis Ababa in organization with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ethiopia (MoCT) coordinated a virtual gathering on 29th April 2021 to dispatch an undertaking on “Fortifying Ethiopia’s entertainment world through sound institutional and underlying systems”. With monetary help from the European Union (EU), the undertaking gave worldwide and public master offices for planning a primary and institutional structure which would empower the nation to begin the execution of its film strategy.

Dr. Yumiko Yokozeki Director of UNESCO Addis Ababa Liaison Office to AUC and ECA and Representative to Ethiopia, on her introductory statements, communicated that the task will empower the Ethiopian movie industry to assume a fantastic part in advancing the social variety of the country. In discussion with MoCT, UNESCO recognized, from its worldwide pool of aptitude, a global advisor Ms Yoonhyung Jeon, to guide and support the public specialists and the Task Force, set up for this reason.


A message followed through in the interest of Dr. Hirut Kassaw, Minister of Culture and Tourism Ethiopia (MoCT), noticed that the execution of the film strategy project is opportune and significant. The Ethiopian film strategy was supported by the Council of Ministers in 2017, by considering the significance of the entertainment world for the financial turn of events, work creation and advancement of the Ethiopian culture internationally.

Mr. Tadious Odissu, the National Expert, made a show to the members about the task targets and anticipated results. Under the coordination of MoCT, a working ‘Team’ having twelve individuals has been set up from the significant government services, proficient affiliations and private film experts for the viable execution of the task.
